Based on a couple conversations with Mike Gavin who had recently had a Rinoliner installed in his FJ40. Based on his recommendation I decided to go with the cheaper version. I purchased the Herculiner kit from AutoZone for $65.00.

My intention was to protect the inside as much as the outside. For those of you with FJ40s or even j@#p’s, when the top and doors are off, any excursion off pavement results in ½ the trail hitching a ride inside the tub. I usually just pull into scruba dub and power spray the entire truck inside and out. It’s funny the looks you get when you're standing on your front seats, spraying the tub out. Also I wanted to prevent the most evil demon for Toyotas: RUST!, which had started to creep onto the back floorboards due to scratches in the paint. I originally thought about the mat, but decided against it. I figured water would collect under the mat and wouldn’t dry fast enough.

My next dilemma is keeping the rig as stock as possible, but I figured since I lifted the body increased the shackles, put wagon wheels on it with bigger tires and installed a CD radio, I could install the roll in liner and not feel to bad.

The process is pretty simple; remove everything out of the tub, seats, gas tank, rear heater :-), and jump seats. I prepped the surface by sanding down all the rust spots to metal and steel-wooled the rest to accept the new paint. I primer coated the entire tub. The next step is critical. Tape off what you don’t want painted. This stuff is permanent, as one guy will tell you about getting it on his privates. Rolling it on is easy. First use the provided brush to get into the corners and anywhere the roller won’t reach. Use a dabbing motion to get the rigid texture. The roller has a special nap to provide that. I painted everything in the tub aside from the transmission hump and my toolbox under the drivers seat. With the floor mats in, you can’t even tell the front is painted. I was able to put 3 coats on the sides of the tub and 6 on the floor.

All and all I’m very happy with the results. I was optimistic about the black but I think it came out good. It’s cheap protection for your rig.
