Installing a York On Board Air Compressor Into a FJ60 and Retaining the Stock AC on The 2F Motor!

The first mod i wanted to do to my FJ60 when i got it was the very practical on board air setup utilizing the York compressor.  I was unable to find ANYONE online that offered a bracket or who had done this onto a FJ60 while keeping the stock AC.  MudRak (among others) suggested that it couldn't be done do to lack of room.  I was determined to get a York under there and with a little imagination, it was much easier then i thought!  There are 2 ways this can be done.  Either by hacking the fender and making a simple bracket to attach the York to the existing AC unit so that it sits in line with the stock AC belt.  Or you can keep the fender in place and set the York up higher in the engine compartment and use a roller wheel to route the belt properly and set the tension.  We chose to do the latter, for ease of production, as we will be selling these kits at: www.stout-stuff.com once they are 100% complete and ready to install!

Some AC lines and wires need to be moved and that is very easily done just by loosening them and rotating them as explained below.

The York mounting bracket will mount to the existing ears on the stock AC unit as mentioned below as well!

Below are some sneak peaks of the prototype bracket and the steps needed to get it to fit:

Shot of the relocated AC lines in order to get the bracket onto the stock AC compressor.  The bracket will attach to the stock mounts that the RED arrows are pointing to.  The AC lines and wired will need to be relocated to fit in the area in between the orange lines.  The AC fitting circled in yellow need to be loosened to rotate the AC line DOWN to make clearance for the bracket.  MAKE SURE not to loosen it to much or you might lose some freon and thats not good!

MANY MANY more pics and instructions of this modification are coming so please check back frequently.  The brackets shown in these photos are just made up of sheet metal for the mock ups to keep R&D costs down.  The brackets that we will be producing and selling through www.stout-stuff.com will be of 1/8" plate steel and will be very stout compared to the ones in these photos.

As far As I Know, this will be the first York OBA setup installed onto an FJ60 that also has stock AC functioning so i am pretty stoked!!

I will also be doing a complete write up of the wiring as well as more detailed instructions!

If you are interested in a bracket kit to install a York into your FJ60, please drop us a line at: sales@stout-stuff.com as we will be making up 5 to 10 sets of brackets in our first run based on the interests we have already seen.
