1981 Troy-Bilt Horse
aka: Big Red
|
|
This
page is dedicated to the restoration of my Dad's old 1981 Troy-Bilt
Horse roto-tiller that he gave to me in 2005. The roto-tiller was
fully torn down, sand-blasted and painted in Massy-Fergusson red. The
8hp Briggs & Stratton I/C motor is still in use after some minor
rebuild work, a new carb, and the ignition was converted to a modern
electronic coil. I have a wide selection of paperwork for this tiller
if someone is looking for something, I may be able to help.

And in case you were starting to wonder if this was deemed to become a
"show queen"... Think again, this tiller was rebuilt to work and be
used as it was built to be used.. My garden was enlarged twice as big
as it was before. (Now 20' x 40'). Look how smooth that soil is
after tilling. Half of that garden was still lawn a couple hours before
this!

The Free plow
In
the first week of June I was on a road-trip to pick up a wood-stove we
bought when I saw this plow on the side of the road with "FREE" painted
on it. I swung the Jeep around to check it out and almost fell over
when I saw what it was! Yes, it was the plow/dozer blade for my
tiller! The push plate for the tiller half was missing, but
quite simple to make. I am still working on this, but will update when
I have the mount bracket finished and it is all painted.

This was
just a mock-up to see if it is where I wanted it before I made the
lower straps to bolt to the lower tube support. The bracket itself may
look a bit odd and homemade; however, it is almost a copy of the
original bracket that came with the plow blade.
You have to love what some people throw away!
