Hi-Lift Jack mount
On a Thule bar with a 40x60 Surco rack
| ~Here is a
quick write up & photos of my roof rack and Hi-Lift mount.~
The basket is a 40x60 Surco rack, it is a little flimsy but it is lightweight. I don't put a ton of weight up there so I was not too worried about the rack, however I did not want to mount my Hi-Lift to is. When I mounted the basket to my Thule rack I did not buy the bracket kit, What I did was to drill through the top of the bar and bolt it on. I used the 6mm cage nuts that came with it inside the bar for the basket clamps and I tapped the bar with 6mm holes for the slats. For the Hi-Lift, I bought a 4Rac mount sold by Hi-Lift. I found that it fit exactly between a slat and the basket on the edge. All I needed to do was to notch the bracket to fit the flush around the baskets bracket. (about 1/8") Then I bought some 3/8" pipe style clamps at the hardware store, I wanted square ones but I did not find any that fit.. (in hind sight, I like this better) I had to cut the bolts down a little and bought nylon nuts.. But all said & done, it can not fit any better. I do have to flip the top clamp and remove the base. But my base has a 1/4" ball bearing pin for easy removal and I don't often go that high on the jack to worry about the clamp.. (I may just remove and keep with my shackles though..) So, with out further ado... Here you go!! ~~ if you have any questions, just ask!
