= Stanley No.5 - Type 11=

(1910-1918)

This plane was bought on e-bay for just under $10, This plane was in excellent condition with perfect rosewood handles. I refurbished the body and flattened the sole & sides. There is a bit of mystery behind this one as it has the high front know that first appeared on the type-12, however it has too many type-11 markers for it to be a type-12. It was either changed, or there is a very good chance it is a very late 1918 version where the ran out of the low knobs and went on to the new stock. This was very common back then were they used old stock before starting the new. Imagine that, Eh?

This is a very nice plane and I am happy with the way it came out, however it will be getting refinished again soon. This plane was refinished originally by me with engine enamel as a paint that is designed for cast iron. I have recently found a place that supplied the original brush on "japanning". This is more of a coating than a paint and had a look all of it's own. So this plane and some others will be chemically stripped and re-japped.   Click here to buy the Pontypool black japanning asphaltum paint $22 per quart.
