10" x 38" / Morse Taper No.2 / 1" x 8 tpi.

Mfg. by Atlas Press Co.

This lathe has made it's way to a new home and I feel that it will be well taken care of. I will leave this page up for others that may be looking for help on their own. Enjoy your new lathe, Paul!

I picked this lathe up at a local home auction on September 9th 2006 for a great price and plan to refurb it and resell it once it is done. I have taken the MT2 live center and the 1/2" Jacobs chuck from it to use with my Delta lathe. (sorry guys, they are mine!) This lathe was made somewhere in the 1940's by Atlas Press Co. It is a very solid lathe with a large morse taper No.2 and 1" x 8tpi headstock that has ball bearings instead of the bronze sleeves so common on lathes like these back then.  She has some nice lines on her and will look nice when all refinished and polished up.

I have 35 photos of this refurb so if you just happen to land one for your self and would like more info, feel free to e-mail me. ~Lee

So not it's off for sale for this little gem so someone else can enjoy her now. Should serve a long time with some care. The lathe was completely disassembled, cleaned & sandblasted before being reassembled. The original Timken ball bearings were in great shape so they were stripped of old grease and properly repacked. I did change the look of the original nameplate, I was not able to save the painted on writing, so I decided to give the lathe a splash of color which I think worked very well.

This lathe, like many of my refurbs, is given a paint job using an etching primer and two to three coats of automotive engine paint. The paint is a high build / high solids paint made for cast iron with just the right gloss. I have been using this for a while and it holds up very well.
