This band saw was purchased in April of 2007 from a member of the OWWM website. This is a very nice band saw and is one hunk of cast iron tipping the scale just about 500 pounds. The saw takes a 115" blade and up to 3/4" wide. The saw is all cast iron right down the art deco base & wheel covers. In fact, when you open the blade guards it reminds me more of a wood stove than a band saw ! The lamp does not appear to be original as the only one I could find listed in an old Walker Turner catalog did not match what I have, however, it is vintage from the era and nicely built so it will be reused. My plan is to get the saw up and running 100% before I tear it all apart for the restoration. There are a few issue to work out like the wiring and switch location (edit: see new switch) plus I want to get the tires crowned before it's repainted. I am sure there are a few other things to iron out before I paint it like fabricating a belt guard, tire brushes, ect.... Stay tuned for more! |

Just a little update, Jamie Norwood over at
the OWWM sells these wonderful reproduction switch boxes that belong on
the saw so I just had to have one. Also seen is the new hand made
thrust bearing shafts. These are designed to fit 6203 Nachi bearings from
Accurate Bearing Co. This
shaft will be an exact replacement with much better sealed bearings.
I am making these in my shop so if you are in the same boat, drop me an e-mail and we can work out a deal for a set. Once I have a couple things worked out these will be up for sale here on my website. |

Here you can see one of my "proto types" in service. Since these photos were taken, I have learned a better way to hold the stock and turn them so the next step is to get my milling attachment set up so I can cut the "V" notch into the shafts. They work great and I matched the new allen head bolts in the side guide blocks. As seen below I have swapped out the worn out steel ones with some Lignum Vitae wood blocks. The matching screws work better and are a great upgrade. |
